Rack-Mounted Leg Rollers

INTRO:

I tried to make Leg Rollers for those of you with 5/8” holes in your racks. However, I was unsuccessful. Therefore, my design only works for those of you with 1” holes in your racks.

This project is obviously simple. Even more simple if you buy the pre-made pads from Amazon. Link here: https://amzn.to/40VNw03

For 2x2 Racks, I think that 18” long plumbing nipples are sufficient, However, for 2x3 or 3x3 Racks - you will probably want a 24” long nipple. If 24” is too long you will need to add a spacer on the “back side.” In the video I used a scrap block of wood from my workshop (I used a 1 1/8” Spade Bit to drill a hole in the center of the block). Alternatively cut a length of 1.25” Schedule 40 PVC Pipe to build a spacer.

DIY Tutorial:

Step 1: Measure

Measure your Rack’s Hole with Calipers (which can be bought here: https://amzn.to/3xuvsgt ). Then go to the Hardware store, and bring your calipers in order to measure the plumbing nipples. You will want to make sure that these will fit before you buy them. We need to do this because not all 3/4” Plumbing nipples will fit in the 1” holes in your rack. Some will. Some will not. Based upon a limited study sample - Menard’s nipples will fit better than Home Depot Nipples Menard’s are slightly smaller (AND BY THE WAY, generally cheaper). Yay Menards!

Step 2: Once you have your nipple, add a 3/4” Nipple cap to one end of the nipple.

Step 3: Add a Washer with a 1” interior diameter hole. I like washers that have a 2.5” outer diameter.

Step 4: Add Your Pad. This can be a pool noodle (but make sure it is dense - some pool noddles are not dense enough). I have bought pool noodles at Menard’s and Target. They are great for this. I also bought a pool noodle from Five Below (a “Dollar Store” here in the US). Their pool noodles are not dense enough. Just cut it to size. HOWEVER, if you want something nicer…buy these the pads from Amazon. They are awesome! Link Here: https://amzn.to/40VNw03

Step 5: Insert the nipple into your rack’s hole.

Step 6: Add a 3/4” Nipple cap to the back side of your rack (with a spacer if necessary). Now exercise!
