Rack Attachments

Introduction

When I was offered a free bench grinder from VEVOR, I was excited. I knew just what I would use it for. I recently published THIS video – where I showed you how to make a DIY Leg Roller.

As I describe in that video, sometimes ¾” Plumbing Nipples will not fit into Racks with 1” inch holes – and sometimes they will. It all depends on the specific manufacturer of the plumbing nipples and your rack…well now I have the solution…Let’s make them fit using a bench grinder! Doing this enables you to not only make Leg Rollers, but other DIY Rack attachments as well: Band Pegs, Hitch Pins, Weight Horn, Storage, Dip bars, etc.…

I required only 2 passes across the 36-grit wheel – FOR MOST of my plumbing nipples. Of course, you can also use the 80-grit wheel if you desire to smooth things out. Just don’t go to crazy so that you don’t grind off more than you want to. You want to grind off JUST ENOUGH to easily get the Plumbing Nipples into your rack’s holes – but not so loose that there is a lot of “wiggle.”

That being said – when it came to the nipple that I used for the “Hitch Pin” It took a lot more than 2 passes. Not sure why this was so much thicker than the other plumbing nipples. I think it took like 10 passes. In fact – the plumbing nipple got so hot from all that grinding – that I had to wear a thick glove to finish the job.. I tend to not want to wear gloves when using a grinder because I do not want to get the glove caught in the grinder…because if I did – that could result in a serious injury.

That reminds me – you’ll notice in the video that I was wearing a SHORT SLEEVE shirt. You should too. Never wear long sleeves when using a bench grinder. AND – ALWAYS WEAR EYE PROTECTION….and wear a mask. You do not want to breathe in “metal dust.”

In the video I showcased 6 DIY rack attachment options, but there are many more. Perhaps I will do a VOLUME 2 video to showcase more options!
